Excursions

Using the refuge of Amitges as a starting point we can do numerous excursions into the landscapes of the high mountains. Lakes, streams, pine woods, alpine fields, peaks and granite rocky places, small glaciers....In this landscape in the very middle of the National Park of Aigüestortes and the lake of Sant Maurici, one can observe many species of animals adapted to high altitudes - Pyrenean mountain goat, marmots, ermines, lamageir and white partridge....and plants which for most of the year live under the snow: gentians, rhododendrons...

GR11 (GR trails)

This is the path of the GR trail which crosses the Pyrenees. Its course is marked in red and white paint. It can be reached within a half an hour's walk from the refuge which is why the refuge is often used as a stopping point.

If you are on the route between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and you want to call in Amitges, just turn at the small lake of "Estanyola de Ratera" where there is a signpost marked 0:45 h. to the refuge. Afterwards to continue the journey it is not necessary to lose altitude.

On the other hand, if you are coming from the Atlantic, turn off the GR at the lake of Port de Ratera and follow the signs to the refuge.
